LOS ANGELES, Oct. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Cancer Bites, a national blood cancer awareness and education campaign launching on Halloween, announced the nominations for the first annual 2012 Fright Night Awards today – from Robert Pattinson to Lady Gaga – in which fans all around the world can vote for their favorite frights in 21 categories that encompass film, television, celebrity costumes and more. The Fright Night Awards is a virtual awards show held exclusively online. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 30. Fans can vote for their favorites at www.frightnightawards.com.

Harnessing the Halloween season and the public’s obsession around the mystique of vampires and the supernatural, Cancer Bites has assembled a powerful team of partners, experts and spokespeople to educate the public about the prevalence of blood cancers. The Creative Coalition is pleased to announce that Ashley Greene (Butter, Twilight), Anna Kendrick (50/50, Up in the Air), David Paymer (Twixt, The American President), Morgan Spurlock (Comic Con: Episode IV – A Fan’s Hope, Super Size Me) and Roland Emmerich (Anonymous, 2012) have been named as honorees for the 2011 Spotlight Initiative Awards. The awards will be bestowed to honorees during the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

The dinner honoring this year’s recipients will be attended by influential players from the arenas of art and entertainment and takes place on Saturday evening, September 10th at the Roosevelt Room.

Representing all aspects from the world of independent filmmaking, the 2011 class of honorees embodies the tenets of The Creative Coalition’s Spotlight Initiative. The Spotlight Initiative was created in 2008 to support independent films with messages that make a positive difference in the world and celebrate the art and craft of filmmaking for their social relevance.

The Creative Coalition CEO, Robin Bronk said, “The range of work from this year’s honorees is a true testament to why we created the Spotlight Initiative Award. Actors and filmmakers are under no obligation to use film as a venue to educate audiences on social issues, but our 2011 class of recipients has done a masterful job in doing so throughout their respective careers.”

Bieber and B.o.B join already announced performers Kanye West, Drake and Florence and the Machine.

Four-time nominee Ke$ha and “Twilight” star Ashley Greene will also be among the night’s presenters when the show goes live on September 12 from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The night will mark the first VMA performances for both Bieber (who presented at last year’s ceremony) and B.o.B. …
